It is just over half way through 2013 so we asked the Alice staff for their picks of the best albums of 2103 … so far.
Here are Gretchen’s picks …
#1 Vampire Weekend – Modern Vampires Of The City
I don’t even know what year it is when I listen to this album. In a good way. Plus, Ezra Koenig *swoon*
#2 Valerie June – Pushin’ Against A Stone
This will be released August 13. I’ve heard some tracks in advance and I’m putting the album on my list. It’s that good, people.
#3 Bruno Mars – Unorthodox Jukebox
If you want to get technical (Vinnie!) it came out in December 2012, but all the great songs on it came in 2013.
#4 Justin Timberlake – The 20/20 Experience
At first I thought maybe I just loved this album so much because it had been so long since we’d heard from J.T. but no, it’s a great listen start to finish.
#5 Sara Bareilles – The Blessed Unrest
I forget how gorgeous her voice is until I hear it beside a piano in songs like Manhattan. My favorite of her albums.
#6 Daft Punk – Random Access Memories
I think these guys are robots from The Future.
#7 Kacey Musgraves – Same Trailer Different Park
Pretty and countryish but with the attitude you can imagine from the title of the album.
#8 Phoenix – Bankrupt!
A few of the songs on this album sound like they’d be right at home on an 80s soundtrack from a movie starring Molly Ringwald.
#9 Ashley Monroe – Like A Rose
She’s like a modern day Dolly Parton, and this is a collection of pretty songs about ugly things. There are some pretty songs about pretty things too. Life, love, loss, stuff like that.
#10 (Just for fun I like to pick a movie or musical soundtrack) Music From Baz Luhrmann’s Film The Great Gatsby – Various Artists. Lana Del Rey, Jack White, Jay Z, Beyonce, and more. Something for everybody on this one.
